Mr. Laurens Hoedemaker
Mr. Laurens Hoedemaker was elected new president of UECBV. The 52-year-old veterianian and
experienced Board member is president of COV and VNV, the associations for the meat producers
and meat processors in the Netherlands. He now brings his expertise and power in a new role to the
European Livestock and Meat Sector.
After almost a decade in commercial veterinary practice, Mr. Hoedemaker has been secretary to the
animal welfare advisory council in the Netherlands and CEO for the Royal Dutch hunting association.
He also was president of EuroFAWC, the European forum for animal welfare advisory councils, and a
vice president and Treasurer General of FACE, the European federation of European hunting
organisations.
The newly elected president declared “Meat is a very important part of the human diet. The European
livestock and meat industry provides high quality meat and should be appreciated and respected in
Europe. UECBV is a key organisation to help turn the challenges we are facing into opportunities for the livestock and meat sector in the next decade. I dedicate my efforts to UECBV in order to make it an even stronger and effective organisation, representing the livestock, meat trade and meat producers in a proactive way.“


The president chairs the general assembly, plenary board and steering committee meetings.

The past presidents were:
  • Laurent Spanghero (FR) from 2000 until 2012,
  • Antono Anoro Pascual (ES) from 1990 until 2000,
  • Ferdinando Bertolazzi (IT) from 1980 until 1990.
  • Philippe Borremans (BE) from 2012 until 2022,
  • Laurens Hoedemaker (NL) from 2023
