We are currently seeking to hire:

1. UECBV is seeking for immediate recruitment of a Veterinary Advisor

The successful candidate will join the Brussels-based team and participate in the running of the UECBV structure, in the heart of the European quarter.

Main responsibilities and tasks:
  • Collecting, monitoring, assessing and reporting on EU Institutions’ activities regarding all veterinary matters related to the meat and livestock sectors. In particular, management and preparation of technical and regulatory files as well as communication material related to veterinary issues (animal health and animal welfare) and trade (SPS measures, trade negotiations, import-export health certificates)
  • Organising, managing and reporting UECBV working groups and committee meetings on various veterinary issues (livestock section, export, veterinary issues, horse meat) and AEMB (European Association of Livestock Markets). Providing policy advice and technical assistance towards the development of advocacy strategies, and the work of the experts
  • Presenting the position of UECBV at the different platforms related to veterinary issues
  • Drafting reports and policy papers and updating data weekly on the animal health situation in Europe
  • Building and maintaining relationships with EU institutions (including European Agencies), MS permanent representations, other international organisations (e.g. OIE), EU stakeholders
  • The veterinary advisor may also be involved in the preparation and organisation of larger projects, such as general assemblies, inter-professional working groups and international conferences
  • Travel will/may be required

Required qualifications and competencies:
  • A university degree in Veterinary Medicine or Animal Production
  • Knowledge of the EU regulatory functioning and environment (experience with food legislation is an asset)
  • Work experience: at least two years
  • Experience (including internship) in EU institutions is a plus
  • Strong team working ability and flexibility to integrate into different fields of work
  • Excellent communication and language skills: English is a MUST; other EU languages are an asset
  • Standard computer/IT skills, including MS-Windows and its applications

2. an Intern .

Overall requirements:
Provide research support to the UECBV Public Affairs practice, covering a wide range of policy areas, such as:  animal health, animal welfare, customs procedures, common agricultural policy, EU trade agreements, veterinary and food safety, labeling, climate change and environment.

Tasks:
  • Work on the web-site and the integrated common office
  • Coordinate the Meat Image Network
  • Drafting fact sheets
  • UECBV Newsletter drafting
  • Research and internet monitoring of activities of the EU Institutions
  • Assistance with responses to members’ requests
  • Attendance at policy conferences and institutional meetings, e.g. European Parliament committees and preparing reports on discussions
  • Maintenance of files and contact lists


Ad hoc projects:
Depending on the moment of the internship, the intern may also be involved in preparation and organization of larger projects, such as general assemblies and international conferences.

Profile:
  • Postgraduate studies Science degrees (vets, food science, agriculture, environment, nutrition), European law/politics or Communication.
  • Experience in agriculture, consumers protection, environment and trade fields are a plus
  • Good understanding of EU procedures / EU institutions
  • English and at least one other EU language
  • Pro-active approach and team work oriented
  • Master MS Office tools (excel, power point, etc..) and searching tools like Google and others Flexibility and willingness to learn Accuracy and attention to detail; interest and diligence in research work
